The brief
Katy Tregear is a makeup artist who decided that she needed a website so that she could realise her goal of doing less retail work and attracting more, varied freelance makeup work. She approached me to design and build her a simple portfolio website to describe her services and makeup philosophy and showcase her work.
Katy wanted the site design to emphasise the visual and promote her work using photographs of past makeup outcomes. She also wanted to manage her own updates and images in a easy-to-use CMS.
The Solution
I collaborated with Melissa Cater to work out the requirements and IA of the site. Melissa worked with Katy to design the content – devising the segmentation, business rules and management requirements of the site. With this clear vision for the website we had a plan.
I designed the visuals and templates for the content (which was by now written and awaiting the CMS). When Katy was happy with the designs I took the HTML/CSS templates into a customised version of the Expression Engine CMS.
Katy now manages content updates and reports that the website has led to freelance work.
